  1. Halloween has become the 2nd most popular holiday in the US (by money spent), but it did not originate in the US and is also celebrated in many other countries including Germany, the UK, Canada, Mexico, Australia, and New Zealand.
  1. Pumpkin farming is big business in the US. Illinois produces the most pumpkins of any state, double 2nd place California. Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Michigan round out the top 5.
  1. There are not many famous people who were born on Halloween, although Christopher Columbus and Dan Rather both were. Harry Houdini famously died on Halloween, as did Indira Gandhi and Eleuthere Irenee du Pont.
  1. This one is very important. There is no need to throw away all the Halloween candy that doesn’t get eaten right away (although that might be the healthiest route to go). Dark & milk chocolates can stay good for up to 2 years if stored in a dry, odor-free place.
